Saturday, 13th January 2024, saw our club takeover my favourite parkrun at Lee On The Solent.
Why is it my favourite? I have asked myself this as with Mrs C, I have enjoyed other locations, including the birthplace of the institution at Bushy Park, but put simply, I think it’s because it’s where I get to chat with friends every week.
The core team at Lee On The Solent have done a wonderful job of organising a local event that runs like clockwork week in and week out in pretty much all weathers. There’s a great core team who oversee this well oiled machine, which ensures that everyone is always made to feel welcome.
The opportunity to ‘takeover’ this parkrun allows some of the core team to catch their breath, although I feel that they always have a watchful eye on their baby, which is somewhat comforting.
This weekend also places our club firmly in the spotlight as ambassadors for our sport, and this is something that I have always prided ourselves on.
The first (and probably only) rule of Absolute 545 RunClub is ‘be nice’, and we do this very well. This takeover also allows us to show off our flags, banners …and baking skills. How good were those cakes?
So, from me, a personal ‘Thank You’ to everyone who got involved, particularly those who wouldn’t usually attend parkrun or who are currently injured. You all represented our club superbly, and I went home feeling very proud.
