Absolute 545 Run Club and the Armed Forces Covenant
Absolute 545 Run Club (A545RC) is proud to announce that we have been awarded the Armed Forces Covenant status!
This recognition is a huge honour for our club, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Andy Pearce, an ex-serviceman and dedicated club member, who took the initiative to apply for this status on our behalf.
We believe this status aligns perfectly with our values and our deep-rooted connections to the military community in Gosport. The Covenant was officially awarded to our club in August 2024, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
As Nick Carter, our club welfare officer, founder member, and proud ex-serviceman, puts it:
“The Covenant simply ties in with our commitment to be inclusive while recognising the commitment to our country given by those who serve or have served. It does not detract from our club ethos of ‘just being nice’ and is nothing more than a nod to those who have served.”
Here’s a breakdown of what the Armed Forces Covenant means and how it impacts our members.
What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
The Armed Forces Covenant is a commitment made by organisations across the UK to ensure fair treatment for those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, and their families. It guarantees they face no disadvantage compared to other citizens when accessing public or commercial services. Special consideration is also given to those who have made the greatest sacrifices, such as the injured and bereaved.
Why is this good for our club?
By supporting the Armed Forces Covenant, we reinforce our identity as a community-oriented club that values every member. It helps us build a stronger, more inclusive community where everyone, regardless of their background, can come together, run, and support one another.
What does this mean for you?
For civilian members
If you have no military connection, nothing changes for you. The Covenant is about recognising the contributions of military members without creating any special status or privileges. Our club remains open to everyone, and our community spirit continues to thrive.
For those wondering about joining
Whether you have a military background or not, you are welcome to join A545RC! The Covenant does not affect our membership policies. We welcome runners of all backgrounds who share our passion for running and community.
Continuing our commitment
We pledge to continue our support for the Armed Forces community—past, present, and future—through events, remembrance activities, and a culture of respect and inclusivity.
At Absolute 545 Run Club, everyone has a place.
