What defines a running club?

  • Is it somewhere that people can learn how to run in a safe and friendly environment? Yes it is.
  • Is it somewhere that people can find advice on how to improve as a runner, without being judged? Yes it is.
  • Is it somewhere you can just turn up and leave the stresses of life behind – even just for a short time- and be amongst like minded people? Yes, it is.
  • Is it somewhere you can simply belong? No expectations, but support, advice and friendship on tap whenever you need it? Well, if it isn’t, it should be.

The most important part of our constitution as a running club is that we are always friendly and inclusive.

No age limits… if you can run or walk, you are welcome.

If you want to come and just talk about running, you are welcome.

If you’re only 5 years old and want to run a bit, you’re welcome, but you must bring Mum, Dad or someone responsible.

The one rule of Absolute 545 RunClub is simply ‘Be Nice.’ Park your ego and politics at the door and relax for a short while. You can get fitter in the process and if you really want to give running a proper go, my word, we have some experience in our ranks who will sit you down, explain the science or join you on your journey.

If being sociable is not your thing, we can do that too. It’s your run, your time and if you simply want to run amongst the safety of a group and then go home, that’s absolutely fine too.

Summer has finally arrived in GosVegas and the vests and shorts are having a proper airing. The lighter nights are very welcome and it’s allowing our club members to get outside for the more social side of running.

Although our usual Run HQ at the WPM Club has a licensed bar, it caters for all with teas, coffees, soft drinks and Slushies!! We’re even hoping to flash up the BBQ any day now!

There are also the running tours to different parts of Gosport and beyond with a group having recently returned from a trip to Poole in Dorset where they enjoyed the local parkrun, before seeing what else the town had to offer.

We are blessed in Gosport to have some lovely open spaces in which to enjoy the fresh air and scenery and the Gosport Golden Mile is the perfect place to safely start your running adventure. It will be even better once the repairs to the sea wall are completed later this summer.

Anyway, enough from me…if you see a 545er, give them a wave or if you can, have a chat and see what we’re about and why we’re (usually) so happy.

Enjoy what’s left of Summer.
